How to Block Unwanted Websites from the Router?
First of all, you will have to check whether the site that you want to be blocked from your router is encrypted or not. You can easily determine whether the website is encrypted or not by the tap lock which is located on the left side of the URL of any website.
There are 2 different methods that you can use in order to block any unwanted website from your WIFI router. The first method will allow you to block the unencrypted websites and the second method can be used to block the encrypted ones.

Method 1- Blocking Unencrypted websites:
In this method, we will be using the Inbuilt blocking feature of your router. You can block any unencrypted website from your router by following the steps mentioned below.
Step 1- Firstly, open the configuration page of your router through your browser. You can access this configuration page of any router by entering its address in the URL box of any browser.
Step 2- Now, it will ask you for your login details. All you need to do is enter your Username and password. You will be logged in to your account once you enter these details.
Step 3- After that, you will have to look for the URL blocking option. You will usually find this option in the security section or the main menu.
Step 4- Once you find this option, you will be able to add URLs in the box in order to block them from your router. Just enter all the URLs and hit the Save option so that the changes that you have made will be saved.
You now have successfully blocked websites from your router. You will not be able to access these websites when connected to your router. If you are still able to access the websites even after following the steps mentioned above then this means that the website is encrypted.

Method 2- Blocking Encrypted websites
For this method, we will be using the OpenDNS to block encrypted websites from your router. The steps by which you will be able to block the encrypted websites are mentioned below:-
Step 1- Visit the opendns.com and register yourself on this website. You will not have to pay anything in order to register.
Step 2- Then, open the configuration page of your router. You can easily access this page by entering the address to your router in any browser.
Step 3- Enter your login details once you open the configuration page.
Step 4- Now, you will look for the “WAN” option. You will find this option in the Basic Setup section in most cases.
Step 5- Click on the DNS option and then disable it so that you can add custom DNS.
Step 6- Here, you will find two fields where you can enter the DNS. The DNS addresses that you have to add in these two fields are mentioned below.
Once you add these DNS addresses, hit the Save settings option so that new DNS settings will be saved.
Step 7- Once that’s done, open the dashboard of the OpenDNS. It may also ask you for your login credentials.
Step 8- Now, go to the settings section and enter your IP address there.
Note- You will have to add the IP address of your location. You can find your IP address by searching for “What’s my IP” on google.
Step 9- After that, open the Web content filtering option which you can easily spot in the settings menu of the OpenDNS.
Step 10- You will find three different level of content filtering options here. You can select any of these levels as per your requirements.
Step 8- Now, head towards the option which says, “Manage individual domains”. You will able to enter domains here which you want to be blocked from your router.
Step 9- The last step is to flush the cache of your DNS. This will automatically happen to each device connected to your router after a point of time. You can do it manually by following the steps mentioned below:-
Click on the Windows + R key on your keyboard while your laptop/computer is connected to your router and type ipconfig/flushdns in order to flush the cache of your DNS.
